The Eduportal System, a web-based platform which enables all academic and administrative issues involving admissions, payment of fees, access to student information, among other things, to be handled electronically, was launched at the University on Tuesday, November 29, 2011.
The electronic system, which is a joint venture between the United Bank for Africa (UBA) and the Regent University College, will be implemented with effect from January 2, 2012.
According to the President and CEO, Rev. Prof. E. Kingsley Larbi, ”With the world becoming more automated and most educational institutions more computerised, the development of the system falls in line with the university’s mission of being a globally-oriented and ICT-driven institution.”
He stressed that the purpose of technology is to improve efficiency and to reduce cost.
The launching of the system was performed by Mr. Daniel Addo, the Deputy Managing Director of UBA, on behalf of Mr. Oliver Alawuba, Managing Director/CEO.
Nii Addo noted that the bank had deployed the system around Africa with Regent-Ghana being the first university in Ghana to use it.
He emphasized that UBA as an organization believes in the importance of ICT and as such has a lot in common with Regent-Ghana.
He highlighted some of the benefits to be derived from the system as a convenient means of paying school fees and other commitments as may be defined by the school via different payment channels.
He said it is also a means of providing complete and up-to-date information about students and notifying university members of events, issues and activities of the school.
Nii Addo further described the Eduportal system as an interactive communication tool with the school and users via an online community.
There was a practical demonstration of how the system works.
Some of the questions asked by the students and other staff bordered on security issues, fee payment modalities and the possibility of the bank opening a branch at the university to ease payment difficulties.
The product development team gave the assurance that measures had been put in place to safeguard the security of the system.
