Nadia Elected Speaker Of Students' Parliament

The Regent-Ghana Student’s Union Election 2012 came off April 20 and 21, 2012, in accordance with the Regent Ghana Student Union (RGSU) constitution.

For the first time, RGSU has a female speaker in the person of Ms. Nadia Darko-Lartey, a level 300 Accounting with Information System student. She came first with a total vote of 42.17% ahead of Mr. Princewel Mensah Eklu who had 30.67% of the valid vote cast.

Mr. Kwame Sarfo-Asiedu, a level 300 Information System Science student, was elected Clerk to Parliament. He had 42.97% of the total vote cast while the position of Women’s Commissioner went to Ms. Agnes Asare-Konadu, a Psychology student with a total vote of 37.64%.

The stakes of this year election were very high. For the first time in the history of the Student’s Union elections too, each executive position had three candidates vying as against the usual two.

The governorship position for Stott Society went to Mr. George Siaw with 64% of valid vote cast while Ms. Diana Chiamaka Okarfor was elected as the Deputy Governor of the society with a total vote of 35.20%.

Mr. Stanley Kwakye and Ms. Hannah Ama Quansah were elected unopposed for the position of Governor of McKeown and Ubuntu, respectively. Ms. Violet Quaye Bannerman and Mr. Godfred Ansah were similarly elected unopposed as Governor of Nkrumah and Anim Society, respectively.
