The leadership of the Regent-Ghana Students’ Parliament has presented the Best Tertiary SRC 2011 Award won at this year’s Youth Excellence Awards to the President and Founder of the university, Rev Prof E.K. Larbi.
Presenting the award on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at the President’s Office at City Campus, the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. George Akomeah, informed the President about the rigorous indices used by the Waves International in selecting awardees for the awards and Regent-Ghana emerging as the best university Students’ Representative Council, throughout Ghana.
He said the leadership of the SRC was so delighted at the turn of events that they felt their joy at receiving the awards would be an anticlimax if they didn’t present it in person to the President as the father and founder of the university.
The awards which took place at the College of Physician and Surgeons, located on the Accra Airport Road, attracted over 30 tertiary institutions from all over the country.
Receiving the award, the president congratulated the students for their presence of mind as leaders in tackling their academic and other campus commitments which, he noted, had not escaped the critical eyes of the awarders. He urged them not to rest on their oars but to inculcate the spirit of leadership and commitment in academic exploits.
Appearing with the speaker were other members of the Students’ Parliament, including Rt. Hon Francis Baidoo (Deputy Speaker), Hon. John Enejo (Clerk to Parliament), Hon. Kojo Mensah Acquah (Dep. Clerk Finance), and Hon. Anthony Asante (Sport Minister).
Rt. Hon George Akomeah also used the occasion to thank Management on the acquisition of a 250KW capacity generator to solve the perennial power outage at City Campus.
Waves International is a youth-oriented non-profit organisation with the vision of empowering young people through effective mentoring.
With the President were Ms Nancy Ansah, MBA Coordinator; and Victor C.T. Ofinam Antwi, Communications Manager.
