Regent-Ghana again ranks among Ghana’s best universities, taking the number 6 spot in the recent Webometrics Ranking of World Universities which was released on Thursday, January 7, 2013.
The Webometrics ranking, which takes into account factors such as the quality of academic papers published in high impact international journals (indicative of the commitment of the scholars with their students) and the number of rich files published in dedicated websites (repositories) according to the academic search engine Google Scholar, among other things, saw the University of Ghana take the top spot in Ghana, followed by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
The ranking, the largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions, places Regent in the top ten Universities in Ghana, sandwiched between Ashesi University College at Number 5, and Presbyterian University College at Number 7.
Regent University College has remained in the top ten ranking for five consecutive editions of the Webometrics ranking. In the Jan. 2011 edition, Regent University College placed 3rd on the ranking, dropping to 6th in the July 2011 edition, and eventually to the 8th and 9th position in the Jan. 2012 and July 2012 editions respectively.
Regent-Ghana’s ascension to the 6th position comes as little surprise, given the ever-growing rate of publication of world class articles/academic papers in International Journals by Regent faculty, as well as increased efforts by the university to promote open access to these resources through its institutional repository. The latest ranking of the university is also a reflection of the university’s commitment to using the web as a tool for delivering education.
In the ranking of Universities in Africa, Regent University College is also ranked among the top 200 universities in Africa.
