30/05/2015- Students in the weekend stream took a day out recently to engage in intensive but fun keep-fit activities.

This was in commemoration of Health and Fitness Day, an event held to promote the adoption of health-enhancing lifestyles within the University Community.

The event was organised by final year Weekend Stream students enrolled in the Events Management Course offered at Regent.

Students enrolled in the course got the opportunity to apply event management concepts learnt as part of the course, as well as face real world scenarios in managing events.

Converging at the forecourt of the McCarthy Hill Campus; participants began the first fitness session by taking a brisk walk from the campus, to a hilltop location in the Mendskrom area and back. A total distance of about 10 kilometres was covered. Participants who were about 110 in number, also took part in various stretching routines and aerobic exercises. A team of medical practitioners were also present to conduct a screening exercise for Hepatitis B. Eye tests as well as Blood Pressure checks were also conducted.

"The program was organised mainly to cater to the needs of weekend stream students, who are mostly workers and parents", says Seth Owusu, Coordinator of the event. "We thought it would encourage them to take time off their busy schedules to exercise and stay fit", he added.

Mrs. Kukua Ntumy-Fletcher, the Course Lecturer also shared her comments: "Students who enrolled in the course took charge of the event planning phase, as well as the implementation stage also. They designed posters and banners to publicise the event and embarked on their own fund raising drives to raise funds to cover the cost of organising the event"

"Through hands-on experiences such as this; students are prepared to manage events across the globe" she added.
