On the 26th of November, 2016, the Regent Ghana Students’ Union hosted and participated in a soccer and basketball tournament which brought together selected private universities in Ghana in the spirit of friendly competition.
The tournament christened “Inter-University Fun Games” took place at the Pentecost University College Campus, at Sowutoum, a suburb of Accra.
In all, five private universities participated in this all-play-all tournament, namely, Pentecost University College, KAAF University College, Methodist University College and Central University.
The Regent basketball team came in second to Pentecost University College by a 1 point defeat in the final basketball game. However, after drawing in the first two matches, bruised and exhausted, the Regent soccer team beat Central University by two goals to nil in the final soccer match to claim the victory and the trophy.
“The tournament was simply awesome”, said Leticia Sateklah, a final year Human Development and Psychology student at Regent, and lead organiser for the competition.
“Apart from fostering interactions between students of various private universities, the purpose of the tournament was to also prepare students for the upcoming Private Universities Students Association of Ghana Games”, she added.
“The participating universities showed a great deal of professionalism during the competition”, said Emmanuel Ekuban, a final year Accounting with Information Systems student at Regent and member of the Regent soccer team.
“The Regent team members were united and determined. We’re grateful to God for the victory.”
