June 1, 2017- Regent University College students have emerged finalists in the 2017 edition of the Community Service Award (CSA) competition for tertiary students.
The Regent Students were among 7 teams out of 54 university teams to advance to the final of the competition. The other finalists include student teams from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Cape Coast, University of Development Studies and University of Mines and Technology, University of Energy and Natural Resources, Bolgatanga Polytechnic, making the Regent Team the only private University in Ghana to qualify to the final of the competition.
Participating teams comprise of between 3 to 5 members, and are tasked to identify a deprived community and come up with an innovative proposal to tackle some of the challenges facing the community.
The Regent team, named “Team Change”, was made up of three BSc. Economics with Computing students, Joseph Unuakhe Omueti (Level 400), Ojodu Sodiq Olawale (Level 400), and Amoako George Amofa (Level 300). The finalists will compete for a GHS 10,000 grant to implement an innovative community project.
Finalists will present their projects at the National Youth Volunteerism & Patriotism Awards at the Accra International Conference Centre on June 27, 2017. The President of Ghana, H.E. Nana Akuffo Addo, will be the Guest of Honour for the event.
The Community Service Award (CSA) is an initiative of the Osei-Kusi Foundation and Selfless for Africa Inc. It is the biggest platform promoting volunteerism, patriotism and community service among tertiary students in Ghana.
The scheme which has been running since 2014, is endorsed by the Ministry of Youth & Sports, Ministry of Education, the National Youth Authority, the Head of State Awards Scheme and the Association of Ghana Industries.
